My Seeing Eye Puppy!

Posted by Picasa I raised a Seeing Eye puppy last year. Her name is Eve. I raised Eve since she was 7 and a half weeks old. Eve unfortunately did not make it into the program. It was difficult for her to overcome her natural instincts. She loves to chase after animals and birds. So after we found out that Eve was not going to make the program I was offered the option to adopt her. And of course I took full advantage of that offer. So now Eve stays at home with me and she is an ex-Seeing Eye dog. This is a picture of her the first day we got her last May. She was only 6 lbs at the time and really really fluffy.

Hi,
I'm enjoying reading your blog, especially because I use a dog guide. I've added your blog to the Guide Dog links list on my blog too - hope that's okay.

Interesting to develop a student club to raise guide dog puppies. I know it's a lot of work but in thinking back to when I was a student, I think it would be a wonderful thing for both the puppy and the student. My first guide dog puppy flunked and I took her back as a pet and she gave me the next 14 years of her devotion. Interestingly, I was not in a position to take another puppy until she passed away this summer but now I have Rockwell, a 15 week old puppy for the next year. However, if he flunks, I will let Guide Dogs place him in a loving home and I know they have a long waiting list of eager people who would love a failed guide dog. That will give me a break from dog ownership, a chance to travel, and then I might do it again! (Don't tell my husband I said that.) I am blogging about Rocky at http://puppywalking.blogspot.com/ although currently, I am being frustrated by Blogger not allowing me to post pictures.
Keep up the good work!
